What is the Vote Count Collective?
The mission of the Vote Count Collective is to provide accurate, standardized, and timely election data at a precinct level.
We solicit the help of volunteers across the political spectrum to help us gather, standardize, and publish this data so all can freely access it.
-
Who can participate in this initiative?
Anyone with the time and skills!

Why do we need volunteers to gather election data? Can't we just get it online?
While it's true that some election data is available online, there are several reasons why we need volunteers to gather and compile this information:
- Inconsistent Reporting: Not all states or counties report their data in the same way or at the same level of detail. Some may only provide county-level results, while we aim to collect precinct-level data for a more granular analysis.
- Varying Accessibility: The ease of accessing data varies greatly across different jurisdictions. Some areas may have user-friendly websites, while many require in-person visits or formal requests to obtain detailed results.
- Timeliness: Official websites may not update their data as quickly as we'd like. Our volunteers can often access and report data faster, especially in smaller localities.
- Quality Control: Having multiple volunteers collect and cross-verify data helps us catch and correct errors that might exist even in official online sources.
- Local Knowledge: Volunteers familiar with their local voting systems can often provide valuable context and catch discrepancies that might not be apparent to outsiders.

What kind of election data are you collecting?
We are interested in all types of election data, but initially our focus is on precinct level data for the federal races.
-
How long will this initiative run?
The current focus is on the 2024 US federal election, but there is no reason if people remain passionate that we can’t backfill previous elections, stick around for future elections, and expand the scope of our data gathering to state and local elections, as well as primaries.
